Google Nexus 7 Tablet Vs Aakash Tablet

Before we start to see the comparison, remember that we are comparing Google Nexus 7 with the cheapest tablet in the world – the Aakash 2 Tablet. The Aakash Tablet is the project of Indian government to offer students in the country a hi-tech learning device. It is a project to sell the device at a subsidized price.

Currently the project is being handled by Datawind and IIT Bombay. The first-generation of Aakash Tablet was handled by Datawind and IIT Rajasthan but the device was not up to the mark. Well, let us have a look to the second-generation of the Aakash Tablet side-by-side of Google Nexus 7 tablet.

Display

Both the tablets are 7 inchers but Google Nexus 7 screen is far superior than Aakash Tablet. The Nexus 7 sports LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen providing a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels where as Aakash Tablet is equipped with TFT capacitive touchscreen offering a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Hardware

Google Nexus 7 is powered by quad-core 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset where as Aakash Tablet got Cortex-A8 700 MHz processor.

OS

Google Nexus 7 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and Aakash Tablet on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS.

Battery

There is great difference in the battery of both the tablets. Google Nexus 7 is fueled by 4235 mAh battery where as the Aakash Tablet is equipped with only 3200 mAh battery.

Memory

Google Nexus 7 got 1 GB of RAM but Aakash Tablet is only equipped with 256 MB of RAM. The Google Nexus 7 features internal memory of 8 GB where as Aakash Tablet has just 2 GB of on-board storage. Well, you can expand its memory to up to 32 GB via microSD card but there is no expandable memory option on the Google Nexus 7 tablet.

Data & Connectivity

Both the tablets got Wi-Fi feature but only Google Nexus 7 supports Bluetooth. The Aakash Tablet features internal SIM slot too and can be connected to Internet on a GPRS connection. This is one of the biggest USPs of Aakash Tablet.

Camera

Google Nexus 7 is equipped with 1.2 megapixel front facing camera providing a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. The Aakash Tablet got VGA front camera offering a resolution of just 640 x 480 pixels. Google Nexus 7 offers video recording at 720p and compared to it the video recording of Aakash Tablet is of far poor quality.

Price

Google Nexus 7 is priced tagged at $199 where as Aakash Tablet will cost only $35 without subsidy. Government of India has plans of giving away this tablet to students at half the price.
