Know The Text Editing Keyboard Shortcuts That Work Everywhere

Typing out a letter in Email or word processor can be much quicker and also easier if you incorporate the various keyboard shortcuts that are available. You can use those shortcuts in various other applications so that you don’t have too many key presses.

Text Editing Keyboard Shortcuts

1. Keyboard Shortcuts Used When Working With Words

These shortcuts will allow you to use arrow, backspace and delete keys to edit paragraphs or sentences instead of just editing one word at a time. The shortcuts are as follow:

  • Ctrl + Left Arrow – will allow you to move the cursor to the beginning of the previous word
  • Ctrl + Right Arrow – will allow you to move cursor to beginning of next word
  • Ctrl + Backspace – will delete previous word
  • Ctrl + Delete – will delete next word
  • Ctrl + Up Arrow – will move cursor to beginning of the paragraph
  • Ctrl + Down Arrow – moves cursor to the end of the paragraph
  • If you are a MAC User then use the option key instead of the Ctrl Key

 2. Keyboard Shortcut For Moving The Cursor

For this purpose you can combine the Ctrl Key as follows:

  • Home – moves cursor to the beginning of the current line
  • End – moves cursor to the end of the line
  • Ctrl + Home – moves cursor to the top of the text entry field
  • Ctrl + End – moves cursor to the bottom of the text entry field
  • Page Up – will move the cursor up a frame
  • Page down – moves cursor down a frame

3. Keyboard Shortcuts For Selecting Texts

  • Shift + left or Right Arrow Keys – you can select characters one at a time
  • Shift + Up or Down Keys – you can select one line at a time
  • Shift + Ctrl + Up or Down Arrow Keys – you can select one paragraph at a time
  • Shift + Home – will allow you to select text between cursor and the beginning of the next line
  • Shift + End – will allow you to select text between cursor and the end of the current line
  • Shift + Ctrl + Home – will allow you to select the text between the cursor and the beginning of the text entry field
  • Shift + Ctrl + End – will allow you to select the text between the cursor and the end of the text entry field
  • Shift + Page Down – allows you to select a frame of text below the cursor
  • Shift + Page Up – selects the frame of text above the cursor

 4. Keyboard Shortcuts For Editing Texts

These shortcuts will help you to increase the speed at which you can edit the text.

  • Ctrl + C, Ctrl + Insert – allows you to copy the selected text
  • Ctrl + X, Shift + Delete – you can cut the selected texts
  • Ctrl + V, Shift + Insert – you can paste the texts at the place of the cursor
  • Ctrl + Z – undo your action
  • Ctrl + Y – redo
