Keyboard Shortcuts That Works In All Browsers

You might be having a favorite browser that you always like to use maybe just because you feel it’s faster or you like the various extensions and its ability to theme.

But it’s not always that you will be using your favorite browser in all PC or laptops. Sometimes you are using your friend’s computer for troubleshooting some problems or in the school or office terminal researching some material. During such cases you will be using the browsers that are already installed in the machine.

Browsers Keyboard Shortcuts

Tabs Shortcut

  • Ctrl + 1-8 – will allow you to quickly switch between the open tabs in your browser
  • Ctrl + 9 – will allow you to switch to the last most open tab
  • Ctrl + Tab – this shortcut will allow you to switch to the next open tab
  • Ctrl + Shift + Tab – will allow you to shift to the previous tab
  • Ctrl + W, Ctrl+F4 – will allow you to close the current tab
  • Ctrl + Shift + T – will allow you to re-open the last closed tab
  • Ctrl + T – open a new tab
  • Ctrl + N – quickly open a new browser window

Mouse Actions For Tabs

  • Middle click on the tab to close it
  • Ctrl + Left Click, Middle Click – will allow you to open a link in the background tab
  • Shift + Left Click – open the link in a new browser window
  • Ctrl + Shift + Left Click – will cause you to open the link in a foreground tab

Navigation Shortcuts

  • Alt + Left Arrow, Backspace – will allow you to go back to the previous page
  • F5 – reload the current page
  • Shift + F5 – reload the current page and re-download the webpage again
  • Escape – stop loading of the webpage
  • Alt + Home – open the homepage that have been set in the browser

Zooming Shortcuts

  • Ctrl and +, Ctrl + Mouse wheel Up – will cause you to zoom in
  • Ctrl and -, Ctrl + Mouse wheel Down – will cause you to zoom out
  • Ctrl + 0 – default zoom level of the browser
  • F11 – toggle between full screen mode

Address Bar Shortcut

  • Ctrl + L, Alt + D, F6 – will you to focus the address so that you can begin typing the address
  • Ctrl + Enter – this shortcut will allow you to skip the prefix of typing website address for example just type Gmail and press Ctrl + Enter to go to www.gmail.com
  • Alt + Enter – this will allow you to open the address in a new tab

Search Shortcut

  • Ctrl + K, Ctrl + E – will allow you to search using the browsers built in search box
  • Alt + Enter – perform the search in the search box in a new tab
  • Ctrl + F, F3 – will allow you to search within the current open page
  • Ctrl + G, F3 – find the next match of the searched text on the current page
  • Ctrl + Shift + G, Shift + F3 – will allow you to find the previous matched word in the search

History And Bookmarks Shortcut

  • Ctrl + H – will allow you to open the browsing history
  • Ctrl + J – will allow you to open the download history
  • Ctrl + D – will allow you to bookmark the current website
  • Ctrl + Shift + Del – will allow you to quickly clear the browsing history
