Every time you want to make a new search you have to open a new tab which at times becomes annoying. So now you can create a new search in new tab by creating a search and pressing Alt + Enter instead of just Enter key.

If you want to make a new search tab by default then do the following:

  • Type about:config in the browser address bar
  • After the window opens in the filter box type the following browser.search.openintab
  • Double click the value to change it to true

2. Disabling Close Tab Button:

When you have multiple tabs open it is very difficult to view the tabs without accidentally closing them because the close button is really close. You can customize the Firefox so that the close button now can be turned off and instead you can have a single close button on the right of tab bar.

If you are not using Tab Mix Plus Extension then do the following:

  • Type about:config in the browser address bar
  • Then filter by typing browser.tabs.closebuttons
  • Move the value to 3 which set the close tab button to the right of the tab bar.

If you are running Tab Mix Plus Extension then do the following:

  • Open the tab mix plus options and choose display/tab
  • Make sure to uncheck close tab button checkbox

3. Disabling The Firefox Tab Scrolling:

One annoying feature of Firefox is the tab scrolling which aggregates all the tabs that you have opened.

If you are using Tab mix Plus extension then you should use multiple rows of tabs which is very useful.

  • Select display tab and change from dropdown menu multi-row and also you can select the maximum number of rows to display.

To disable this if you are not using tab mix plus extension do the following:

  • Then filter by typing browser.tabs.tabMinWidth
  • Set the option to 0 to disable this feature completely

4. Saving Tab Space For Frequently Used Tabs:

If you are always having the same tabs always open then it’s wise to shrink them down so that they take up less space and give more space to other tabs that you have opened. To do this you need to install FaviconizeTab Extension.

You can set this extension to shrink the tabs based on the URL.

  • Right click faviconize from the menu
  • And choose enable auto faviconize and enter the URL of the pages you always keep open in the tab
  • The commonly used tabs now will appear as an icon every time you open it.
