Google Nexus 7 Tablet Vs Microsoft Windows 8 Surface Tablet

There is nothing much revealed by Microsoft for its upcoming own brand tablet – ‘Surface‘. Still, whatever we know about it so far, based on it let us give a try to compare it with just unveiled Google’s ASUS Nexus 7.

Nexus 7 Vs Windows 8 Surface: Design and resolution

If we strip the colorful cover of Surface, the tablet simply seems to be a slab with a kickstand, and of course to be very frank it looks a nice slab. Well, but it is still a slab. The Nexus 7 of Google on the other hand is a bit glossier. It is better looking than Surface.

Though Microsoft talked nothing about the resolutions of its tablet while unveiling it but it is guessed that the Surface RT version will be having “ClearType HD” screen with 1280×720 resolution and the Surface Pro version will be equipped with “ClearType Full HD” display offering resolutions of 1920×1080 pixels. The Nexus 7 tablet is learned to be offering 1280×800 IPS display.

Processor

Nexus 7 got the best ever processor in the tablet industry – quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Surface Pro is guessed to have Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor and Surface RT is to run on Tegra 3. Microsoft has not confirmed but analysts just assume it.

Storage

The Surface RT will be available on two versions based on storage capabilities – 32GB and 64GB. Both the versions can be expandable via microSD cards. The Surface Pro will give you more on-board storage. It too is coming up in two versions – 64GB and 128GB. Again, the two are expandable via microSDXC.

Google’s Nexus 7 is much behind Surface in storage part. It just comes with 8GB and 16GB versions.

Battery life

Google’s Nexus 7 offers a battery life of about 8 hours for active users with its 4,325mAh battery. Microsoft has maintained silence revealing the batteries of its Surface tablets.

Operating system

Again, Nexus got the latest operating system of its renowned Android. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean giving Project Butter user interface. The Surface is leaned to run Windows RT on ARM-powered model and Windows 8 Pro on Intel-powered device. Microsoft Office for RT is also integrated on Surface RT.

Key features

Surface got twin cameras as well as twin microphones and Microsoft says it will be “tuned for Skype”. Also, the kickstand, Touch Cover and Type Cover differentiate Surface from Nexus 7.

Google’s Nexus 7 got NFC (near field communications).

Both the tablets got Bluetooth.

Nexus 7 Vs Windows 8 Surface: Price

Though Microsoft has not revealed anything about the prices of its Surface tablets but it is assumed that Surface RT will compete with Apple’s iPad and Surface Pro with ultrabooks. Huh! Beyond the reach of $199-type buyers.

Google has priced tagged Nexus 7 at $199 for 8GB model and $249 for 16GB model with $25 Play store credit.
